Elongated, laterally compressed, large eyes. All Madagascan Rainbows have the black or silver band running through
the middle of their bodies. Males are much more brightly color, and
their first dorsal fin comes to more of a point than a females. Females
have a more deep body, and are more yellow in color. Madagascans are very peaceful schooling fish, and should be kept in a planted, yet open fish tank. They are very active fish and like wide open spaces! These fish’s colors may be intensified if the substrate is dark, but make sure you use gravel substrate as they do better with it. Madagascans can be very much like begging puppies when being fed. Even after a feeding, they are still swimming next to glass near the top acting like they haven’t been fed in months! They’re quite the characters! Madagascans are easy to feed. Just simply high quality flake, and occasionally meaty foods. Be careful when feeding foods. Their mouths are large, but their throats are very thin.

During courtship, the Male’s colors will become more intensified. When the eggs are laid, you should make sure the temperature is at 75 degrees F (24 degrees C). After about 6 or 7 days, the eggs hatch! Most Rainbows are prone to skin flukes, parasitic infestations (protozoa,
