Title: Trying ADFs again - tankmate confirmation
Post by: CrazyCatPeekin on June 28, 2012, 12:16:15 PM
So, after last year's ADF failure I was ready to give up on them. BUT, I have a source for healthy frogs now and have decided to give them another try. I've got a 20L ready to go and I am thinking of stocking it with endlers, corys (something small - maybe pandas) and ADFs.

I know the frogs will be cool with the endlers since I used to keep them with guppies years ago. I am thinking that the corys are probably going to be fine, but I've never kept the two together so I am just looking for a little confirmation. Anyone see any potential issues?

Corys should be more than fine, especailly the smaller species that do well in a 20 gallon.  They're possibly the most peaceable fish ever, and are derpy enough that they shouldn't take all the food from the frogs. The Endlers should be good as well, although they may get a little overzealous at feeding time.  It sounds like a great stock overall.

Stock the tank lightly with the Cory Cats. The ADFs and Cory cats have to share the bottom of the tank so you need to make certain that they can coexist without bumping into each other.

Good luck with your ADFs. Remember that the tank needs to be fully cycled before you add them.

Yeah...that is exactly my concern. I am still not sold on the corys; I might skip them. We'll see how it goes.

I already have a cycled filter for the tank. With 15 tanks running, I've always got an extra filter or media somewhere.  ;)

Its only a 20L... not 20gal =D. I think 20L is about 5 gals'

I would say no to cory cats if its a 20L and stick with endlers and ADF's  :).

I think she meant 20 gallon long, Spuds, and not 20 liter.

I've got FROGS! I am so happy! They arrived on Saturday...a day late in the mail - I was nervous as all get out for the little buggers being stuck an extra day in a box! But, they arrived all healthy and safe. They seem to be settling in nicely and every evening out they come bounding around the tank! I keep counting them to make sure they are all OK...lol!

There are six frogs in the tank and two mystery snails with them right now. I am not sure if I will keep them together or not.

Here's some pictures...The plants still need to grow in, so the tank doesn't look great. But the frogs are fabulous! I love these little guys so much! I am glad I decided to give this another shot.

The tank looks great and the frogs look like they are having fun!  I, too, have a previous failure w/ ADFs (getting them to eat, I think), and would like to know how you are feeding yours.  Also, how did you find your source for healthy ADFs  Do you think the LFS is not a good place to buy?

Best of luck to you and yours!

The frogs at my LFS always look skinny and sickly to me. I got frogs from them before and had trouble getting them to eat. Some died within a couple of days...one lasted almost two weeks. They were just never very healthy and I was not able to nurse them back.

These frogs came from Rachel, aka msjinkzd on ThePlantedTank.net. I have gotten great shrimp and fish from her before. She takes very good care of her critters and I have never been disappointed ordering from her. This is her website: http://msjinkzd.com/ (http://msjinkzd.com/). I cannot say enough good things about her. She gets my highest recommendation.

I have been feeding these guys mostly frozen bloodworms. They have also been eating the Repashy Shrimp Souffle that I put in there for the mystery snails. I know that Rachel was feeding a mixed diet that included pellet food, so I will probably pick up some HGH Frog & Tadpole Bites for them also. I feed them in the same spot in the tank all the time. I know they don't see well, but apparently their sense of smell is awesome. After two days, they knew right where to go and they start heading over as soon as I get the food in there.

I think starting out with healthy animals makes all the difference with these guys.

The tank looks great and your ADFs look healthy.

I hope everything goes well for you this time. ADFs are cute and interesting little creatures to have.

Good Luck!!
