Title: Been seeing an interesting trend lately...
Post by: JOKER on August 08, 2012, 03:09:44 PM
Every time I go to the LFS, I see severums and Uaru put in with haps, alounocara, and various Tanganyika/malawi species.  I asked about it and they said that it is kind of a common trend now.  Anyone know how this got started?  And Ive been seeing it A LOT in a few different stores.

All I can say is I know the requirements of those fish and would not keep them together..... :(

I know how it got started, but if I explain, even I wouldn't be able to bypass the censors. Lets just say that who did start that has a brain tumor where a hemorrhoid should be.

They shouldn't be put together. As a purist, I wouldnt even keep Africans from the same lake together. But the facts hold true that Severum and other bigger SA can handle themselves in an African environment. Being tank raised now aday, they can live in the same water parameter w Africans (maybe minus the breeding). It's a pretty good concept to get newbies to buy a bunch of fish of different class and put them all in the same tank where they can all survive.
