Title: ADF's in the wild
Post by: Pat Mary on October 05, 2012, 06:28:47 PM
Something has been bothering me for quite a while.  How do ADF's survive in the wild?  From what I have read (not ever having kept them myself), you have to practically beg them to eat.  It seems that their eyesight is bad and their sense of smell leaves a lot to be desired.

I think these guys are almost or outright extinct in the wild.....

Id imagine they just gobble up any critters that pass by their mouth. They are pretty useless at actually finding food  :proud:....

Well, insects sometimes blunder into water, which makes them easy targets.

Same thing goes for worms and larvae buried in the mud.

If they could never find food, they'd never have existed in the first place :) Or something like that.

I think they must rely primarily on sensing movement.  They have no trouble finding live Daphnia or black worms (BTW are those just a kind of Nematode?).  They will also eat blood worm gel from Tetra Min and also frog pellets.
They do seem incredibly dense about food.  Maybe they just don't get the munchies like the rest of us (i don't mean from D  :smoke:)
