Title: Red Cherry Shrimp
Post by: Claire on July 24, 2014, 04:50:10 PM
Considering trying these guys again.
1st, expensive, attempt didn't go very well.
Maybe try in a 60L instead of a 25L this time?
Saw 5 colourful reds (females?) and 1 not so colourful in shop today.

Question: What male/female ratio should I consider?

And what are the striped red and clear shrimp? Would they cross breed with cherry ones?

Thanks folks.

How expensive are these shrimps?

Jerry, I have seen them for as much as $5 apiece.  I just stick with 10 cent ghost shrimp.

Cost isn't really the issue.
I've never bred anything and know red cherry shrimp are good at that!
Just wondering if 1 male would do the job or to keep on the look out for more?

A single male should work fine.  Like you mentioned, they are very prolific.  All of the Neocaridina shrimp will cross breed, (Cherry, Yellow, etc) and all of the Caridina shrimp will cross breed, (Tiger, Bee, Crystal Red/Black, etc).

I would get more then one male because you may have a problem with inbreeding in the future
