According to this site http://fish.mongabay.com/species/Sternachella_schotti.html brown knifefish get about 8" so one could live in a 55 gallon.  however, if you were planning to put the tetras and cories in the same tank they would quickly become lunchmeat Wink
I did a search on google for the others, and probably just found the same articles that you would there soo.. good luck with your research on them!

thanks for the info Seafoam.
heres the information I have come up with so far.

Embers: very small, similar needs to other tetras, not hard to keep. hard to get though.

Mirco corys: smallest cory yet. needs schools, can only have small tank mates.

brown ghosts: about max size of 8 inches, cheaper, more rare than black ghosts. also have a deceptivly large mouth.

I want to get the smaller ones but the ghost is just for some research. It's just frusturating becuaes they are all so very hard to aquire.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is who has had experience keeping these critters?
and how to find them   question

embers are almost a certainty to buy online
petsmart or walmart wont carry the micro corries or brown knifes,  you have to go to a fish store that specializes in fish.  a non franchise pet shop.  do a yahoo map quest search and you will find some.

You may want to ask your lfs if they can order any of them for you. Also check out aquabid.com I haven't had any trouble buying fish online, and at aquabid you can see sellers' feedback and see if they are good at what they do, or if they have negative comments. Depending on where you live, you may want to wait until temps are warmer before ordering fish shipped through the mail.
Good luck Smiley
