Author Topic: The Peppermint Tetra?  (Read 3145 times)
« on: August 30, 2008, 08:50:08 AM »

At my local fish shop, I recently encountered some nice red tetras with white fin stripes called the peppermint tetra.  I was thinking about getting some, but I cannot find any info on them besides the name.  Does anyone know anything about them?

If it helps they are also labeled with a code similar to the L-series plecos.  I'll try to write it down and post it if it helps to ID these fish.

I think that may be the common name for HYPHESSOBRYCON ORNATUS white fin variety.  Google that and see if it helps.

Thanks for the latin name!  They look exactly like the ones at the store.  However, the store claimed to be a new species under the name HY511.  It is obvious that they are Hyphessobryon species of some kind.  Why are they listed under that code number?

this place seems to carry them too, they have some info:
its the 3rd one from the bottom

a search for "hy-511 tetra" will return a lot of hits in google Smiley

apparently they are not hy. ornatus. . . though they look darn similar to me.
