And now for something completely different.

SO.....  I've found that

2 female endlers + 1 male endler =
5 endlers first batch
7 endlers second batch
8 endlers third batch (that I could count)

That's 20 babies and one of the mommies is ready to drop again!  This is all the FIRST generation!
I haven't even been able to sex the first batch.  I can't imagine what it will be like when the SECOND generation starts to breed.

Shari - how many endlers do you have?!  I'm gonna have to start putting new batches into the big tank for nice snackies, I think.

Hahaha you could start using them culinarily if you are going to use the culls as live food.
I think they would make nice fritters, maybe an omelette.
Perhaps garnish on salads.
Endlers and cream cheese bagels perhaps.....

I want to complain too! Wink

So, Shari sends me too many adult Endlers to count. The females were ready to drop when they arrived. So now I have a tank FULL of endler fry and she just sent me the adults a week ago. In one week the number of Endlers I have has doubled!!!!!!!!

Endlers are taking over my house and then possibly the world. This is all Shari's fault!  rofl rofl

Endlers do that- they're uberbreeders. I populated most of this section of Iowa with mine- people came and picked them up for free, with the intent of breeding and selling. I supplied the lfs until they refused to take any more- the fish outbred the demand at the store. With the addition of my rtbs, a female betta with undamaged fins, and a school of tetras, I no longer see any fry. The female endlers still get fat, and get skinny, on a regular basis, but the fry do not survive long enough to become adults.

Well, lets think about this.....

If 1/2 half of these 20 babies are female (10), and when they mature in a few weeks, THEY each have 20 babies, then that makes 200 babies.  200 babies in about 1-2 more months.

My good lord, I'd not ever imagined!

You can't blame it all on Shari. I sent her some good stock at one point. I'm pretty sure Betsy is all my fault too. I have some in the 75 now. We'll see how it goes. By the way these are ones from Shari that she donated for a schooltank for a friend of mine.

Yep- Betsy's were from MRM, but are completely under control now. Smiley Lots and lots and lots of the babies were shared amongst the Iowa fish community, as I gave them away for free to anyone willing to pick them up. One family drove from Cedar Rapids to get some, with the intent of breeding and selling in their area. Smiley

Freshwater fish love fresh water.

« Reply #10 on: November 05, 2008, 11:07:56 PM »

Leezard, they only have 20 babies at a time when they are young.  When they mature, it's more like 40. So, there is exponential exponent figure you need to put in your math, but I'm no good at math.   run_away

I have Shari Endlers here in Texas too, but I'm not complaining.  I love 'em, and every now and then I beg her for more!

Endlers are the best fish ever. You rarely see them and they are very beautiful.
Their sex ratios are temp. dependant if you want to change their population dynamics you could change the water temp.

Check out my you tube channel.
