While I was down with the flu the boys were in charge of feeding the fish in my room ..
as you may recall my room is a very tight fit with tanks on three sides in a 6 x 8 ft room...
a little too small for them to move around in there ( tall guys)...

Boys will be boys and they have built more walls outside of my room( boxed it in) to give me a much larger space...
I am so excited!!!
once they remove 2 walls of the original room the new space will be an actual 10 ft x 14 ft room with 12 electrical outlets..
took 2 whole new circuits in the breaker panel so far...

I have a linear piston air pump ( purchased at auction) and a few large diaphram air pumps for back-up etc.
we will be installing a closed loop air system for sponge filters...
we will be using 1/2 conduit (grey) solid pipe hung from the ceiling in a pattern the boys refer to as a "digital 8"
hopefully to create an even pressure and prevent back pressure..

and will be drilling and glueing "taps" into it and dropping airlines down from the piping to the tanks..

QUESTIONS ?????..

.Fittings / taps....what would you recomend to use for tapping into the pipe.????

I want my airlines to run directly off of those fittings ..

And I like individual flow control for each line... what is the  shutoff valves that you would use????

there will probably be a few more questions as well but those 2 things first.
It looks like the walls are coming down tomorrow and air supply will be my first priority once that happens...

I will try to get some pics before and after of the space for you ...

Now I will have room for two chairs ...Who wants to come over and play?????????????

Personally, I'd stay away from the plastic air valves.

This is what I have purchased in the past and they have proved to work great for me.  They cost more but as a long term investment, you can't beat it.  Note - on these air valves, each one can actually have two air lines hooked up to it.

Good luck.

I agree, the nickle plated brass valves are the way to go.Jehmco has them for .85 each and kensfish 1.20.

I would up the main airline size to 1". The cost difference is low and you will have 4 times the flow capacity.

Volume not as important with a pump, its pressure yore trying to maintain. With a blower you need larger pipes
Make sure the material you chose for the pipes accepts a tapped hole well though as some of the thin wall pipes can be difficult to work with.I used 3/4" and the stuff at the local hardware store had very thin walls, difficult to tap effectively and the stuff at the home depot had thick walls, much better for this purpose.

Thanks ......
Those look just perfect ......exactly what I was thinking .........
I like that the shut off are on the valves ...........
I will look for them locally ..I have a few ideas now....
I only saw plastic ones at Home Depot.
I already have the conduit and yes I did see the flimsy stuff.....

I am now trying to plan out rack/tank placements in the room  ... leaving room to grow ...
trying to map it out on graph paper....
I need to keep species tanks ... hatchout , grow out ect ..
figuring out heights of tanks ect.....

and I need to pick up a couple more larger tanks ...for species tanks
I have lots of 10's a couple of 15's and 30's and one 40 down there already.....

What is your favorite sized tank for working with ??? confused

I was thinking that 55's would be best as they are readily available cheap used .....

Well Today was the day .....

the old walls are now down and the whole space has opened up!!!!!!!!
It was a panic stricken day  always thinking of what possibly could happen ...
I only remove a couple of small tanks from the room and had buckets of water ready just in case any fish had to be moved fast...

I took a couple of pics to show the progress of the days events....
The guys were just marvelous ......
tomorrow we will finish with the plastic and taping of the walls etc..
finishing the raised flooring .. putting together some more benches and possibly the rough fit for the air supply ..
we left a tiny space in one back corner to act as a pump room and a place for my cultures ect..

anyway here it is as the outer walls went up ...

Check you out, looks like you're having some serious fun with this!
55g are easy to get and cheap used.
My favorites are the deep(front to back ) tanks. If I had the cash I would redo my whole fishroom in 4'x18" tanks

The new room has already passed the first test ...
I have no heaters running in the tanks ...I just run a small room heater.
I just keep the ambient air temp in the low 80's F. and all the tanks stay warm enough..
I checked this morning and water temps are perfect.......

You are Right there Gommez I am having too much fun!!!!!!!!!!!
now I have to keep my open for 55's or 75's....
Have to fill the room.....

My basement is essentially unheated there are only 2 lines off the ductwork in the whole basement..
I used R14 rockwool in the walls and a raised floor ...with an oil filled radiant heater it gets nice and toasty in the room ...

I can see you doing something similar in the future...
Why do you think I posted the pics???... So that you could enjoy what I am doing too! Wink

work went slower today....rather than patching up and adding on to the existing bulkhead around the HVAC duckwork we just tore the old bulkhead out and redid the whole thing...it was a lot of work but now we have a nice ..relativily level place to hang the piping for the air system in the room..
temp is so good in that room that we are seriousy thinking of not putting in a raised floor and just putting industrial rubber mats on the bare concrete...Spills would be easier to clean up...
that would slow things up a bit as what is on one side of the room would all have to be moved temporarily to the other side in order to rip up the flooring that covers 1/3 of the floor where the tanks are now...

Is it worth it..????

he he he he   proud

I love Blue Marlin, dont think i have a tank big enough for that though, would have to flood the basement and put in a glass floor.... Smiley

and Belinda, you can pick those kind of matts up at a sams, or big box store for home repair, I use them in the kitchen at work, they are great, and they serve a purpose, get the good ones though I have found some cheaper ones that slip when water gets under them

Just did a bunch of sorting and planning today ...
Had to actually go back to my paying job today ...
Did have time to find a great deal though ..

I found my centre island tank for the room ..

A 90 gallon!!!, lights, glass lids, stand, and filters for $100.00 ...Yippeee!!!
Picking it up first thing tomorrow morning before she changes her mind ...
I will be taking my tape measure with ..but even if it is only a 55 it is still a great deal!!!

I picked up the 90 gallon tank and what came with it ... all in great condition ...
No filter however that is no problem ..when I do the tank shuffle to get everybody downstairs the filters will get shuffled too ..

When I went to get it I felt like shaking the young couples hands ...for proper housing for their one fish..
It had previously housed only one 10' fish (Piranha)..He got upgraded to a 125 ..and he was a beauty..

We changed our minds about the flooring again for the room..
the reason....
..It would actually be a lot less work to put in a new floor in the new section than it would be to move 4 racks of tanks to rip out the old flooring'.
Only to have to move them all back to the spot that they were in in the first place.

The floor joists are all in ...
We did them at 10' on centre instead of the standard 16" to account for the extra weight load and we are also doubling up on the blocking between the joists as well..
the actual wood sheeting for the floors are going in tonight and the first new racks will go in tonight as well...

.Hopefully by the end of the weekend all the tanks will have been moved in and  I will be planning out the fish shuffle....
Hmmm... now who goes where???????

O.K. now I have a filtration question...

I will be doing a tank and stock shuffle ...
The stocking I have figured it out....do I do a filter shuffle as well???

I know that I need to get another filter as the 90 I bought did not come with a filter ... which is no problem as I would like to use my own choice..

I plan on keeping my 75 gallon upstairs  it has a Fluvol 405 canister on it and an Emperor 400 HOB .that will stay as is...

My 55 gallon is going down to the fish room ..
It has a Fluvol 305 canister and a Penguin 330 dual bio wheel Hob on it ..

Now for the 90 gallon .. Fishroom as well..
I do not want to buy another canister..
so I was thinking of buying 1 or 2 more Emperor 400's.

I was debating putting the 305 Canister on the 90 with the output down near the bottom of the tank for bottom current and an Emperor 400 .

but then I need something else on the 55 gallon...? tank is planted...what??? small powerhead for bottom current and a large sponge filter???

or do I just leave the filters as they are and just put 2 Emperors on the 90 gallon with a small powerhead near the bottom for bottom current???

Naturally sponge filters will go in the tanks as well ..

opinions would be appreciated.....Thanks....

Id leave the 55 and put new filters on the 90.2 emperors and a sponge is plenty for most stocking.
