Hi all - found this board while surfing.  I used to have a big tank, downsized a little to far and went with a 7 gallon fluval tank.  I realize this is too small for any fish so have given the few serpae tetras I had to the friend who bought the big tank so the fish can properly school since she has others in the tank also.  While I know it's too small for fish but I might be able to have snails or something.  Any suggestions?  Ideally would like to keep it running but would like something relatively hardy and low maintenance, if no such thing exists I suppose I can shut it down or keep running it empty, just have a "plant tank" but the algae will probably be dreadful eventually.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You have a few options if you take proper care of the tank.... small tanks are less forgiving in not taken care of properly.

1) Single betta
2) Shrimp tank (many to choose from and love planted tank)
3) 2-3 African dwarf frogs
3) 6-8 celestial pearl danio (not so hardy and pretty expensive)

Assassin snails, Nerite snails and apple snails would all be fine in that tank.

Personally id just put around 10 cherry shrimp and 4-5 nerite snails in there and heavily plant it.
