Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but was inspired as a 15 year old in 2004/2005 by this site to get a tank so thanks for that :-)

Unfortunately not had a tank for 2 - 3 years so I'm just getting my head around everything again.

Spontaneously purchased a new tank on Friday, Juwel Rekord 700 (not a bad deal 150 for tank, stand & filter/heater combo). after viewing some of the tanks in the shop I've fallen in love with the planted tank idea, although
some tanks look to overcrowded. Am i right in thinking with a planted tank i wont need an air pump if its got the right plants in? Would appreciate any advice.

No tank needs an air pump.  Those are decorations for the humans to enjoy.  They do serve a purpose, they stir the water at the surface to increase the overall gas exchange that takes place.  However, if your tank is properly filtered, it is already getting stirred at the surface.
