Hello,

I had that triops in a 2.5 gal tank as the kit it came with was far to small. After it died I used the tank for baby platys, saving their lives but probably stunting them in the process.  Going to move them all in a 10 gallon tank and hope to find a home for them.  So, about shrimp.  The tank is well cycled and has a bare bottom with a plastic plant and a lot of guppy grass with some frog bit.  It has much algae, on the non viewing sides and I see hair algae as well.  the water parameters are as my other tanks, PH 7.6, ammonia 0 ppm, nitrite 0 ppm, and nitrate 5 ppm.  I know nothing about shrimp but I do know my grand kids would love to see them.  It can be heated and is my only heated tank, sitting on a heating pad I turn on to keep it above 70F. I'd just as soon have it room temp.  What could live there as it is and what more do I need to know about them?

Thanks, Gregg

It has a Jardin Mini sponge filter by the way and has a desk lamp light and some natural light as well.http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s392/lv2crp/001_zpsuja3ccyf.jpg

I read the thread about a 1.5 gallon attempt at a shrimp tank. I hope that young fellow comes back, I was once a 13 year old with a tank myself.  But, it answered my question in a round about way, that perhaps my 2.5 may be large enough for shrimp of some sort.  A nephew has shrimp in a 2.5  but I wanted your opinion, or followers.

I found Karen's synopsis on organisms other than fish.  It seems I'm beginning to answer my own questions. I think Amano shrimp would work best in my set up.  I have to ask, though it seems few people read this, does their bio load approximate that of fish?  In other words, is the maintenance similar? Water changes, testing periodically, etc. Not having much success here.

When in doubt, do a water change.

Pat Mary you are an angel!  That is one comprehensive site I will use extensively.  If you have experience to share I'd appreciate it.  Per your suggestion I'll not use this for platy fry much longer, only 4 are there now, I want to keep the cycle until I get some shrimp.  Thank you.
