Hi I'm new to BadmansTropicalFish and a few months ago I bought 3 shrimp. I didn't know what variety they were but petsathome sold them for 11. At my new LFS I can buy 10 River Shrimp for 1. Could you tell me what shrimp I have already and if River shrimp can live in a Tropical Freshwater Tank?? How do I post images?

You cannot post any pics until you have at least 10 posts under your belt.  This was done to help control spam and nasty links from some people.  You might want to introduce yourself to help you to attain 10 posts.

In the meantime, could you describe your shrimp?  Or, can you see your species in this link?     http://www.planetinverts.com/shrimp_species.html

I think that the Amano looks the most like the three that I've got but do you think that the LFS would advertise these shrimp as River Shrimp?? If not don't worry they are quite reliable and I could ask of the water conditions and work from there! Wink goldfish

I googled "river shrimp" and came up with this:     http://staugustine.com/stories/080201/fis_0802010058.shtml#.V7TH3XxTHIU

It seems to me that they don't live long and are only in freshwater as larvae.

It doesn't say how large they are as adults but I have a feeling that they are too large for the average aquarium.  Why not just stick with the known species of freshwater shrimp?
