A friend of mine wants to re home these 2 fish to me, but she doesn't know what they are. I originally thought that they were of the Rainbow family until she said that they have a "Spear" coming out of the center of their tail fin. Not at the bottom like platys or others have. Picture doesn't really show this but I believe her. Any Ideas?

OK All,
New picture. AS you can tell these guys don't have a spear/spike on tail fin. It's all fin and I want them!
Hoping someone can help as I am going to get them and put them in a 15 g until I can find out more.

The fish in those pictures look to have a somewhat severe case of fin rot. Caveat Emptor.

Thanks Guys,

TTA you are probably right. This co worker doesn't do water changes, just tops off the tank when water gets low. I am going to put them into a 20 gallon for now and see if they will even make the transition. I will take as much of her water as I can and slowly get them back to good water parameters. It will be interesting to see what the chemical tests show when I test her water. Probably off the charts. This is going to be a long slow process. I hope they make it.

Thanks Russ & TTA!

Well, got the fish home and it's not as bad as I feared.
There is no fin rot. I compared their fins to alot of pictures and they look great.
Water wasn't to bad either. .25 ammonia and 60 - 80 Nitrate. I thought it would be way higher.
I took about 8 gallons of her tank water and filled the Q tank up with some of my tank water. I will give them a few days before I bother them again. They have lost a bit of color from the move, so I will let them relax a bit. I will look to get them some more companions in a few weeks.
