Tanks: 6 gallon Eheim cube
Posts: 95

« on: March 20, 2018, 06:59:20 PM »

I have what was once a very nice 6 gallon nano tank... it was an Eheim. I need parts but no one Services or sells them anymore.
The filter and light were all one piece. At the time I bought it, LED grow lights were pretty new and expensive. Now when I look around it seems nano tanks became quite the fad and they are everywhere! But none of them seem to indicate whether their lights are capable of growing plants or not.

If I can’t get Eheim parts, is there an alternative I can affix to my tank without buying another? Also, how do you tell if an led is good for growing plants or not and what level of light it can provide?

Here’s a photo I found on google images http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/images/products/display/EheimAquastyle4GallonAquarium.jpg

I poked around a bit and found the one place where one might find this stuff was Ebay. I use Ehaim products but not internal filters, their nano tanks etc. However, I found what appears to be a replacment light for almost $100 and a replacment filter  for about $30 give or take. I did not look for replacement LEDs.

LED technology has come a long way since you got that tank. They are now considered the best option for new tanks or retrofitted to older ones. I am older and happily use older technology.

Unless one is doing the more demanding plants and likely added co2 would be needed as well, then intensity is usually more important than light temperature or frequencies.
