This is a man-made crossbreed of two types of fish that would never live in the same environment. Some people think this is okay, others call this a frankenfish. For more information, do a Google search on "blood parrot". I'm not trying to start a debate- this is just an FYI for those who might like the looks of this fish and are considering purchasing one. Please don't purchase without research!!!

well i always do my research before buying fish just as i have been doing for the past fifteen yrs yeah its true its a man made crossbreed but ppl who r newly entering the hobby really dont care bout it as long as its attractive ! its these kinda fish that sadly attract new folks into the hobby betsy, most ppl do their fair share of research, not only you... which is why the number of fish hobbyists keeps growing everyday ! because ppl are successful at this hobby after doing their research !

Blesson, this comment is left for people who just look at the fish and think, "That looks cool, I think I'll get one!" without even knowing what it is. If you search this site for "blood parrot", you will see that I have left this comment on every single blood parrot picture I have come across. This is so people will think twice before purchasing this particular fish, as many are horrified when they realize exactly what it is they have purchased and what industry they are supporting.

^So it isn't okay to purchase Mixed breeds of fish, but its okay to purchase mixed breed dogs a cats? I think this person did reasearch on the fish and than purchase it. I think taking care of mixed breed fish is pretty interesting for those who want to keep a fish like this. =D

Konastar, this hybrid is created out of species that are incompatible. The result is a deformed and suffering creature - not a cute little mutt that will have a long lifestile with a comperable quality of life. Many of these offspring actually cannot even close their mouths. As I have said, I am not trying to start a debate on somebody's picture. Perhaps you should look into the subject yourself, or start a thread on the main forum about it for a better explanation.
